The above was a recent proposal by a Malaysian pro-government senator. According to Mohd Imran Abd Hamid, and I quote:
“I propose a Sexual Harassment Act to protect men from the actions, words and clothing of women, which can cause men to be seduced to the point they can commit acts such as incest, rape, molestation, (watching) pornography and likewise. This is important, we (men) need to be protected. The actions, clothing of women can seduce us into breaking the law and causing us to be charged (with a crime). I ask that the minister consider this so that the men in this country are safe, and the country is peaceful,”Malaysiakini, PKR senator moots law to protect men from being ‘seduced’ into raping women
Who knew? Apparently there are men so fragile that they need an act of law to protect them from “clothing, actions and words” of women?
Perhaps the whole New Malaysia concept currently posed by the government in its first term in power, needs to be reconsidered – because this mindset is equivalent to James I and his Malleus Maleficarum.
How could a party that promotes centrism and equal treatment, with its former president, and current president’s wife holding the office of Deputy Prime Minister as well as Minister for Women, Family and Community Development, remain silent?
Instead, it seems that her deputy needed to speak up and tell him he’s downright nuts. Although to the credit of Hannah Yeoh, she chose to use with and sarcasm by asking how babies, boys and girls fell into the act of law stopping their “clothing, actions and words”.
What confounds many of us (those of us who think the Senator is out of his lane) is that if men are so fragile to be enticed by words, clothes and actions, then we literally have no hope whatsoever as a nation because all men in Malaysia are sheep with no self control.
We suddenly hear a woman, see a woman, or look at how they act, and are immediately enticed to rape them, if we consider the senator correct. Can you imagine such a society surviving for the past 60 years as a nation?
It would have been and still would be stuck in a stone age due to everyone too busy looking at women and raping them.
The fact that he has withdrawn his words is no basis to forgive him or let him keep his position. The idea permeated by himself is too jarring to be considered in this current global modern society.
It has been ridiculed by the international press to the point of making it to 9Gag, for goodness sakes.
PKR needs to withdraw him now, or lose credibility as a party pushing for a more mature society as a whole.
